A federal jury in Brooklyn delivered a guilty verdict against SafeMoon CEO Braden Karony, holding him responsible for orchestrating a $2 billion cryptocurrency fraud scheme. The conviction includes charges of conspiracy to commit securities fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. Karony faces a potential 45-year prison sentence and forfeiture of $2 million in assets.

Over a 12-day trial presided by Judge Eric R. Komitee, evidence revealed Karony and his associates misled investors about the security of funds in SafeMoon’s liquidity pools. While marketing these pools as ’locked’ and exclusively for business use, the defendants secretly siphoned millions for personal enrichment.

The U.S. Department of Justice emphasized this case as part of its ongoing crackdown on cryptocurrency-related financial crimes. Karony’s admission to investor deception underscores the vulnerabilities in emerging digital asset markets.
